As you know, I've got a lot of makeup, and yes there is a mix of Drugstore and High End products (mostly High End). However I do enjoy using both types of makeup, and I've been trialing a lot more new products since my last list when I had first started this blog. Hopefully it's beginning to look a bit more professional than it used to! Or is that just my wishful thinking?
In my previous Princess versus Drugstore list I played them off each other, and Princess brands won. Nothing has changed I still prefer Princess (aka expensive/ High End) brands to Drugstore, that's just my personal preference due to having really sensitive skin. However I have used a number of Drugstore products that I love too, and have never set my skin off in nasty redness. I do realise out there though that people do have different skin types and needs, so I will always include Drugstore products when I can.
In this updated version I will be naming my favourite Drugstore and Princess brands for the usual topics of interest. If there's anything you think should be on here that I haven't included, please let me know and I will try it out if I can.
Moisturisers
The Bare Minerals moisturiser is a relatively new purchase, but I have used this every day since coming back from my holiday. It works wonders on dry and oily skin. It is initially very thick and greasy but does absorb into the skin fast leaving your face feeling prepped ready for the foundation of your choice.
Since using either of these moisturisers, redness on my face has reduced one heck of a lot!
Foundations
My needs are always the same in a foundation:
- Is it moisturising?
- Does it have good coverage?
- Will it last all day?
All six of these foundations have never set my skin off in breakouts or redness (except the Lancome one, but as I have stated previously, this is my eveningwear foundation). Bare Minerals lasts the longest on my skin, but all have a decent length of wear from 7 to 12 hours. If you do want something under £10 the Lush Colour Supplement is the one for you, but even No7 and The Body Shop Foundations are under £20. Not too bad.
Face Powders
Primers
Eyeshadows (singular)
Princess brand favourites are the usual suspects: MAC, Bare Minerals, Benefit and Lancome. Anything that can be blended flawlessly into the lid is amazing. I have a few cream shadows here which are great as a lid primer before applying a powder shadow. Even though these are more expensive, these brands design some of the most beautiful colours, you just have to have them all! Not one shade is ever the same afterall!
As for drugstore brands, I tried to find shadows similar to my Princess favourites. Maybelline Colour Tattoos are a great dupe for the Benefit cream shadows. Body Shop's Colour Crush's, again are amazing to blend and are just so pretty for the Summer. The two brands at the top of the photo are Loreal and Maybelline. I don't think they make these shades any more, but like the Colour Crush shadows, they are great to blend and amazing for that flash of colour.
Eyeshadows (Palettes)
These are such good value for money and often take away the guesswork of which colours to wear together. Although I've only included two drugstore eyeshadow palettes here, but you can get some gorgeous eyeshadows for under £10. I just love playing with my eye makeup, it is just one of those things you can have fun with.
Eyeliners
I do love all of these eyeliners, but these are the smudgiest for when I want to create a smoky eye. Is smudgiest a real world? It is now!
Blushers
Mascara
How many times did I use fullness in that paragraph???? What is wrong with me?
Lipsticks
Lipgloss
Yes I finally got round to using my Tanya Burr lipgloss; it is amazing and now a favourite in my makeup bag.
Nail Polish
Please let me know your current favourites below and follow me on twitter if you want more daily randomness.
Bye for now!
